  95. Thanks to all of you who sent in your shareware fee for version 1.0 and 1.1.
  96. Usually the payments came with a brief note describing how much fun your
  97. children and grandchildren were having with the program.  It made my day to
  98. find a thankyou and a check every now and then in the mail. I even got a few
  99. notes from the children themselves, what a joy that was!
  100.  
  101. The net result is that you kept me psyched up to expand upon the good start of
  102. Coloring Book 1.1.
  103.  
  104. What is Coloring Book?
  105.  
  106. Coloring Book is an electronic coloring book in which children color areas of
  107. pictures by selecting a color from the color palette and clicking on the
  108. various items. Hidden within the pages to be colored are many surprising
  109. animations and enjoyable sounds. The program explores some of the
  110. possibilities offered by the new computer medium with activities such as
  111. virtual paper dolls and a robot construction set. Coloring Book has received
  112. rave reviews in the publications of several of the largest Mac Users Groups.
  113. More importantly, it has been delighting children (and a few adults) aroud the
  114. world for the last two years.

  118. The help window is now locked, so the kids can't rewrite the help screens.
  119. Some of the longer animations have been trapped to prevent multiple activation

  378. Do you use an external battery on your PowerBook?  Or are you tired of those
  379. low battery warnings coming up minutes or even hours before they really
  380. should?
  381. Then Threshold is the answer!
  382.  
  383. Threshold lets you adjust when the low battery warnings occur.  You can alter
  384. the warnings to come up later than usual, giving you more productive battery
  385. time.  It is essential if you are using an external battery pack (PowerPlate,
  386. ThinPack or similar), but it's also handy for internal batteries.
  387.  
  388. Threshold sports a concise graphical display.  It shows an analog graph
  389. representing current battery voltage, with the curent warning points
  390. illustrated.  There is also a battery status indicator, an elapsed timer, and a
  391. sleep button.  The warning thresholds are easily adjusted using up & down
  392. arrows.

  394. Threshold allows you to program up to three different sets of warnings, and can
  395. automatically toggle between different sets for internal and external
  396. batteries.

  398. Version 1.0.4 increases error recovery for a corrupted "MyBattery Link" file,

  435. UPS Monitor is a small hack, used to determine the status of a
  436. serial-connected UPS. Many UPSes come with a DB-9 serial port, which serves
  437. as a status line.
  438.  
  439. If you don't know what a UPS is: UPS stands for Uninterruptible Power Supply,
  440. basically this is an external power supply for your Mac with a battery. When
  441. you have a power failure, a UPS gives you 10-15 grace minutes to save all your
  442. work and shut down, which might be a bit hard if you're not near the computer
  443. at the time. UPSMon takes care of this for you!

  467. I have sent maybe 100 faxes no prob with my LineLink and FaxSTF3.0. I
  468. received one yesterday. I used fax status to manually receive the fax.
  469. It seemed to copmlete okay, but hte phone rang again (trouble wtih the
  470. other fax machine?) and I tried to receive again manuually, but this
  471. rashed the mac. I could not get STF manager to run after that (I'm
  472. using 3.0.1Beta) and had to reinstall (note that I had a different
  473. problem with STF Manager and had to reinstall once before  - it would
  474. crash on opening one of the Activities with an error of type 4).
  475.  
  476. Now I have this fax document, but I can't read it. It is of filetype FAXR.
  477. Saved faxed are FAXS. Clicking it just tells me that "STF Mangeer doens't
  478. recongize documents of type FAXR". Changing the filetype manually doen
  479. work because launching STF Manger and trying to open it just changes the
  480. filetye back. The icon looks like a fax dcoumen with a bite out of it.

  482. i'd really like to be able to read this fax and maybe understand WHY
  483. everything crashed upon a second receive. Any suggestions?

  512. I know that TCP tools for the Communications Toolbox (CTB) have been discussed
  513. before, but I'm hoping I can get a "one-stop-shopping" answer with this
  514. post...
  515.  
  516. I would like to use CTB-aware applications as telnet terminals over a SLIP
  517. connection. Usually, this means SITcomm 1.0.1, but ClarisWorks 2.1v2 could also
  518. come into play.
  519.  
  520. I've tried both the Outland and TGE TCP tools mentioned here with mixed
  521. results. The Outland tool immediately crashes when I click the "Connect" button
  522. in SITcomm. The TGE tool works OK, but typing and pasting text in the terminal
  523. window is interminably <g> slow; the commands I type are sent to the host at
  524. something like 300 baud speed. *Received* text, on the other hand takes full

  733. Just after I posted my previous note, I decided to remove the AV DSP Power
  734. plug-in from the plug-ins folder so that Photoshop would load without it,
  735. and voila! No crashes! Gaussian Blur and all the other filters work
  736. perfectly, no problems at all. So it turns out that the conflict was not
  737. between RAMDoubler and Photoshop itself, but between RAMDoubler and the DSP
  738. plug-in. As I said before, I have run Photoshop with the plug-in installed
  739. but without RAMDoubler and had no problems at all.

  741. However, I have doubts about whether or not the plug-in works at all. I
  742. have noticed absolutely zero speed increase in the operations it professes
  743. to speed-up. But I have noticed that it is the last plug-in to load,
  744. despite the fact that it's name begins with an A. Is this normal? Could
  745. this have something to do with the RAMDoubler conflict or the lack of a
  746. noticable speed increase?

  763. Does Photoshop 2.5(.1) conflict with RAMDoubler? On my 660AV with 8MB of
  764. RAM doubled to 16MB, Photoshop crashes when using certain filters, most
  765. noticably Gaussian Blur. On other filters, such as Solarize, I have no
  766. problems. Otherwise, my Mac freezes. Force-quitting Photoshop invariably
  767. brings up a dialog box telling me an "unimplemented trap occured" or
  768. something like that, and my only option is to restart. When I try Gaussian
  769. Blur and the other criminal filters with RAMDoubler disabled, I have no
  770. problems, so there is most likely a conflict. This is quite strange
  771. considering that one of the plethora of apps the Quadra 650 in the
  772. RAMDoubler ads, and even on the box, is running is Photoshop!! I should
  773. also point out that I am running the AV DSP plug-in.
